Ethan learned to ride a bike on Sunday and I can't pass up posting a few pictures to share and record what a great day it was for our family.
Dave came out and got him started riding down our small hill on the lawn. He picked it up in no time.
Hannah came out and read a Harry Potter book while Isaac and Alden hung out on their own bikes.
Ethan got the hang of it quickly although began to get frustrated with the grass. David had had his exercise for the day so I took over. Hannah, Ethan, Alden, Frank and I went down to the school for some pavement riding. Frank loved racing the boys. I was a little worried that I hadn't grabbed a helmet for Ethan but didn't want to run back home for it. Luckily, Ethan got a hang of his brakes quickly and we didn't have any accidents.
The only thing he didn't get the hang of was getting started. We eventually made it home and pulled out the helmet where Ethan continued to ride with help from Isaac.The next morning Ethan was adamant that he had to ride his bike to school. He had on his helmet 20 minutes before it was time to go and Isaac offered to help him with getting started any time he needed help. I was still in my pjs when it was time to see them off. Isaac helped him get started - right into a telephone pole! The crash triggered bawling and I sent Isaac off to school while Ethan came in so I could quickly dress before walking him to school. While dressing, Ethan left without me, walking his bike to school by himself! Alden and I walked down to make sure he was okay but he was fine in his class. After school Ethan tried riding home and, while it went okay, he was shaky enough at it that he hasn't ridden since. I haven't encouraged it because I am afraid I won't be able to come inside again, to busy supervising outside. Of course, my yard is in need of some serious attention so some mandatory outside time could be useful. I am sure we will get back to riding in no time so I am trying to get some inside jobs done while I still can.
